SBS’s “Running Man“ is currently receiving some backlash from the public for using unfair ways to win a dinner game.

On March 27th, Jung Yonghwa and Daesung appeared as guests for the show and experienced going on a camping trip. In order to make dinner, the “Running Man” members were divided into two teams. Each team were given a mission to make separate dishes for dinner, with the best-tasting dish being declared as the winner. As such, two representatives from each team went to the local convenience store and bought ingredients for the challenge.

‘Team Blue’ chose Yoo Jae Suk and Daesung as their representatives, while ‘Team Red’ chose Kim Jong Gook and Song Ji Hyo. Hilariously, the ‘dumb and dumber’ pair were scolded by the blue team for not buying any seasoning, such as salt and pepper for the dish. In the end, Yoo Jae Suk decided that all could be saved by putting powdered ramen soup into the dish as its seasoning. This was a common ‘technique’ used in ‘Family Outing‘ every time a dish did not taste good.

After receiving praise from unaware team members for creating such as delicious tasting soup, Yoo Jae Suk sent a video message to Yoon Jong Shin, who first came up with this idea: “Jong Shin hyung, are you watching? Today you should try putting this in as well. It is really good. Today it is especially good.”

Although the segment was hilarious, viewers nevertheless showed a negative response as they said, “The team went against rules. The PD specifically stated, ‘You can’t put soup in,’ and the rule was even visible as subtitles but during the game Yoo Jae Suk’s team put soup in and still won.”

Furthermore, viewers also commented on the message boards, “Winning after going against the rules…” “I do not think I could view this with the kids. Is this a kind of show where they teach kids that cheaters win in the end?” and “Today’s episode was fun but I just did not understand the soup part.”

Hopefully they'll be able to bring it up in a future episode and rectify it--an official apology, or Jae Suk getting some sort of additional punishment.

Spoiler

Ultimately, though, isn't it all in fun? I mean, take Episode 29...Jong Kook and Jae Suk lie to win the loyalty of their teammates; Joong Ki and Ji Hyo double-cross Jae Suk. It might not have been expressly against the rules, but aren't those things just as unethical? It's all for fun and entertainment, anyway, so while I understand the sentiment that the outcome of the game somehow encourages cheating, anyone 12 years old and over (the show's official rating) watching RM should already have been properly raised by their parents.

I wonder why people are so worked up about this? :<
It's nice that jongkooks team lost once in a while.
Plus in FO, didn't they cheat all the time? XD

It's entertainment. They should just take it as it is and not make a mountain out of a mole hill.... jeez...
They have to make it funny.... if they all went with the rules, it won't be funny anymore....

In Running Man they do tend to cheat, and that's what's fun.
but netizens always take things to serious :swt:

Somehow I think this is the after-effect of the controversies of violating the rules that MBC's show "I Am A Singer' created. I mean, there were tons of, and I mean, tons of worse ways of cheating, going against the rules that were and still are present in variety shows when it came to competing in games.

Maybe people are getting a bit sensitive after the controversies of "I'm a singer" happen, so they kind of watching RM and analyzing it in a less open-minded way. And we all know how netizens, especially antis, like to blow things out of proportions.

Let's hope the best for Running Man! Running Man Fighting!

at least the cheating makes it harder to predict the winner of the games, so this unpredictable element's what makes it entertaining i think..
Viewers should just treat the show as entertainment and not so seriously.

People who want fair competition with strict rules should stick to professional sports. The rest of us want entertainment and foul play that is verity shows.

I don't recall there being a previous time, though, where someone violated an explicit rule on RM--the cast has pulled off things that were unexpected and "out of the box" (like the Episode 4 game where Jae Suk's team figured that one of their own team must be a target, just as one of the opposite team was their target, and had him--Jae Suk--separate from the group and hide) and perhaps "unethical" (like the aforementioned KJK and YJS lying to teammates about who they called first, or Hyori in Episode 1 grabbing Jung Eum's hair, or a certain kick by Suk Jin in a yet-to-be-subbed episode), but if the report is correct, then this is the first time the PD's specifically told them not to do something but they did it anyway. So to me this does stand out as a singular example of "cheating" as opposed to bending or tiptoeing around the rules.

But like I said before, fixing things with the viewers should be no big deal--simply bring up the topic in a future installment of the show (like, say, the one that's presumably taping in a little while), have KJK rake the culprits across the coals a little bit, and then give the culprits a hilarious handicap for one of the games as punishment.

I know it seems amazingly petty for those of us used to the ugly world of American reality television and pop culture in general, but this is a culture where young stars are forbidden to date (or at least acknowledge that they're dating), onscreen kisses are a HUGE deal, and songs are banned from broadcast for lyrics that wouldn't even raise an eyebrow at Radio Disney. So a certain level of what we would perceive as an extremely conservative reaction is expected.
