I wasn't sure where to put this, this seemed most appropriate because I've seen it mostly in Variety shows...

Any way, why is it? Is it to like distract from the pain or something?

yeah, i believe its to distract from the pain, they hit somewhere so that they hurt somewhere else instead of the groin haha
