I think that the fate of season 2 is going to depend on two major factors: the chemistry of the cast, and the format.
At first when I heard Cha Tae Hyun was the final member added, I was pretty excited and optimistic. With a little bit of time and consideration though, I am not exactly sure how he will work out - he is a bit too much Eun Ji Won, but with a slightly more abrasive side. I think, as some members have pointed out here about Tae Hyun, he is alright in moderate doses but seems the type of guy that if he were on weekly, he might get a bit on your nerves with his antics. We shall see, but unless Tae Hyun has some more layers to his variety persona, I can see him suffering from long-time fans comparing him constantly to Eun Ji Won, and trying too hard to fill in the big shoes of the "Eun Cho Ding" persona.
I am not quite sure what I think of Sung Si Kyung, because from the last viewers special I didn't find him all that funny. He puts off an image sort of like Kim Ju Hyuk, but without the dry one-liner delivery and ability to react to being in the pitiful role all that well. Si Kyung almost seems a bit of a stretch, at attempting to recapture some of the ballad fans that Lee Seung Gi brought in. He seems like a nice enough guy, but I am not so sure that a weekend variety show regular role will work out too well for him.
Joo Won is probably the production crews best hope to fill up the giant hole that Lee Seung Gi is leaving with his departure. With being one of the cast members of the popular drama, Bread, Love, and Dreams,
I believe that the casting was hoping he could capture some of the middle-aged female homemaker demographic with his casting. We'll see how he plays out, but like the Cha Tae Hyun / Eun Ji Won comparisons, I feel the shoes left by Seung Gi might be a bit too big for Joo Won's critics to deal with.
As for Kim Seung Woo, he's a somewhat confusing entry. I would of thought that if they were going for a more MC type character that they would go big, since a lot of fans felt that the hole that Kang Ho Dong left with his sudden departure was the biggest thing missing in the final episodes of season 1. I just wonder if he's going to be considered the main MC, or if Lee Soo Geun is going to be, or if there is going to some co-lead duties among the two. Seung Woo brings a long list of materials that people are familiar with, that both males and females enjoyed, so he's a fairly big name - but we shall see how well he works with this cast.
From what I have read, so far the plans weren't to radically alter the existing format but to tweak it a bit. I think the biggest problem with why Family Outing Season 2 faltered was because of it's format being so drastically changed, and the crew constantly changing it around from episode to episode to try and fix ratings. So as long as 1N2D Season 2 remains something that you can watch for around 5 minutes and say, "Ah, this is 1N2D" just by seeing it, it should have a fairly strong chance of success.
I'm going to miss the cast that is leaving, and particularly PD Na, who after Kang Ho Dong's departure, really stepped in and was almost an extra member of the cast himself with the way he helped pull the cast together, but I am willing to give the new season a chance. I just don't think it is going to be something that clicks soon, because fans really took people like Kim C and MC Mong leaving hard enough as was, then with Kang Ho Dong missing that absence of something missing was even larger. I can't imagine 1N2D without Eun Ji Won and Lee Seung Gi either - it's going to be somewhat difficult to adjust for a bit of time.
