Firstly, .mp4 and .avi doesn't mean anything significant in this case you've presented, it's just a container to store the information eg: codec, length of video, resolution etc. Please understand the differences associated with distinguishing containers and codecs.
Two choices in your situation:
1. Re-encode the file itself to a codec that is playable. I also do this for my external player and ps3.
2. Remux the video.
Bear in mind we also don't cater for playing videos on external consoles and players, so you'll have to take the appropiate step to make it work. If we really did cater for external players, there's going to be even more problems, as certain players can only play certain codecs. Given the amount of external players out there in the electronics world, we don't have the time to encode the video to each and everyone's desired player/codec/container.

Ok in that wall of text - you've assumed we've used other containers - which isn't the case. Scroll through the other episode downloads to see for yourself. What another group does in terms of their subbing does not mean we follow suit either in our videos.
Also, formating the file to something "playable" and placing it on a usb isn't a lot of work on your pc. There's a huge list of players available, even on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia....diting_software - so search up some and test it out. See which suits you the best and don't be lazy (we've already done the hardwork of subbing and releasing it - encoding a video file shouldn't take 88 hours+ like subbing).
Really, I couldn't care less what dattebayo used to sub either - not sure why you've brought up something that is incomparable as we are two separate groups. I enjoyed their works, but sadly they don't fansub anime much nowadays and the bleach anime videos would be quite a few years old. If you still experience problems with the latest codecs, I'd advise you to check your drivers/video players as well as your pc hardware.
Have you considered updating the LG TV's firmware, or if possible, to use an external media player - as you'll be playing shows on a larger screen?
However, change is inevitable. Nothing stays the same forever.
